One of my favourite seafood tapas bars, without the tourist crowds, in Gracia.Lluritu is that seafood tapas bar we all dream of for our Barcelona trip, with a marble counter, and a menu on the wall with daily specials written on the tiles. Excellent fresh seafood, order the grilled calamar, shrimp, scallops, clams and the tomato and smoked eel salad. Also fish grilled or fried on the plancha. And those olives with anchovy filling with a glass of ice cold sherry, beer or white wine! Nice service, too. The other restaurant, Lluritu 2, is a few blocks away and has a similar menu but a modern interior.

Some of the best in the city are also their rices, like the red Mullet one or a classic taken from Alkimia with crayfish. On point Catalan cookingPart of Barcelona’s burgeoning trend for owner-chefs’ small restaurants, where the cooking, and seasonal ingredients, really shine, and the price is accessible. Maleducat is right next to Sant Antoni Market, which informs dishes like confit of leeks with hazelnut vinaigrette and mato cheese, and Maresme peas with cod tripe, egg yolk and blood sausage. Shout out to the crunchy ‘spring roll’ of hare royale and chocolate sauce too, which was an utter delight.

Italian restaurant, with special focus on the region of Venice, and natural wines. This was our first visit to Xemei, but we had visited Osteria Il Colombo (Xemei’s brother in Madrid) previously and had a fantastic meal. We loved the area where it’s located, a bit more calm and great to disconnect from the city a little bit. A part from that, we of course also enjoyed the meal, very casual, not overcomplicating things, just nice pasta and a nice wine menu.On this occasion we were several people and ordered the following:* Strozzapreti Cacio e Pepe.* Burrata and tomato salad.* Pappardelle with Ossobuco ragout.* Tiramisú.We especially loved the pastas, but generally speaking all dishes we had were very enjoyable. The strozzapreti had the perfect al dente bite, and on the other side, the ragu was packed with flavor and the pappardelle completely absorbs the sauce, just lovely!Together with the food we had Ageno 2016 from Le Coste.Definitely a place we recommend and will go back in the future.
Warike Project, located in Barcelona’s Poblenou neighborhood, offers a down-to-earth take on Peruvian street food. It was named a favorite by a local food blog, thanks to its focus on everyday flavors that feel both approachable and satisfying. The relaxed setting and straightforward cooking make it an inviting spot for anyone curious about Peruvian cuisine.

Peruvian street food restaurant in the Poble Nou neighborhood.Warike was one of the new restaurants we tried on our last trip to Barcelona, and let us tell you, it was also one of our favorite restaurants of the trip. The food is inspired by the everyday dishes of Perú, most of them new to us, and after tasting them, we want to visit Perú even more than before. The food looks simple, and it is, like the chicken for example, but it’s just perfectly cooked, and this applies to every dish.Focusing on what we had, our dishes were the following:* Cebiche carretillero.* Mackerel causa.* Pork belly “al cilindro”.* Veal sweetbreads anticucho.* Grilled corn.* Chicken “al cilindro”.We enjoyed every dish, the cebiche had it’s personal twist and we enjoyed a lot the crunchy contrast, but what we enjoyed most was the pork belly “al cilindro”, it was just perfect. It reminded us of some char sius we’ve eaten in Hong Kong, and that’s not surprising given the Chinese influence in Perú up to the point where they have a kitchen style called chifa, which is a cross of Chinese and Peruvian cuisine. To sum up, this is one of the places we’ve most enjoyed in recent times in Barcelona and we highly recommend it.
