The Best Burgers in Copenhagen
The burger lover's guide to Copenhagen.
While burgers may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the New Nordic capital, the city is about much more than just fine dining and Smørrebrød. Fatty's is your go-to place for a traditional burger meal, while Poulette serves perhaps the best chicken sandwiches in the city. POPL is for those that want to take the traditional burger experience a bit further and enjoy a tasting menu alongside it. Guided by insights from respected food writers Peter Atzen, Kenneth Nars, and Katrine Klinken—these picks will surely not leave you disappointed.

When Noma does burgersPopl is not your traditional burger place and still, it is. The burger looks just like any other burger but being made with the same dedication as gourmet food the flavor is just amazing. In addition to that their wine and beer menu is impressive and delicious and everything is served in a very cool and laidback setting.
Gasoline Grill began as a small spot in an old gas station, drawing steady lines of customers in central Copenhagen. It has become a local favorite thanks to its fresh, organic ingredients and welcoming atmosphere. Over the years, it has expanded to multiple locations, but the original setting still holds a special charm.

The famous cheeseburger at the original Gasoline Grill. There’s been a hype around Gasoline Grill ever since they opened in 2016. That means a steady queue of customers at the gas station at Landgreven a few blocks from Kongens Nytorv. The burgers: the patty could be described as a medium thick semi-smashburger made of fresh ground organic beef, fried medium well done, with plenty of fat and flavour, served in a potato bun. The benchmark cheeseburger (make it double) comes with cheddar, raw onion, pickles and Gasoline Grill mayo sauce. The fries are crinkle-cut, light and soft inside. Definitely a great, plain hamburger. The menu also features fried chicken sandwiches, vegetarian burgers and a butter burger. Drink house made lemonade or cold Tuborg. Gasoline Grill is expanding with plenty of other locations, but the gas station at Landgreven is the original Gasoline Grill.

Copenhagens best burger. This is one of the Copenhagen gems and a rather unknown one. However in my opinion they serve Copenhagen's best burger. Like any good burger, it looks super basic but the flavors are just amazing. I am still trying to figure out what exactly it is that makes this burger so good for me. All I can come up with is that everything is done just right and then, I really like that their pickles seem to have a bit more punch to them and their fries are just amazing. So far it's just for takeaway but in the summertime, they have tables outside where you can enjoy your burger.

Burgers with beef patty and bone marrow A tasty brioche bun with super good meat and tasty relish mayo. The meat is from organic Danish cattle and from several cuts. The ground meat is mixed with 15-20% bone marrow. The cheese is an aged white organic cheddar. The vegetarian version with falafel is not as good as the one with meat. The dining room is like a more ordinary burger joint. I prefer to have the good burger outside or as take away to be enjoy along the canals or at home.
Poulette is a relaxed sandwich spot in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro neighborhood, right next to the Pompette natural wine bar. Damm good chicken sandwichWhether visiting the original restaurant or the space at the food market Broensgadekøkken the sandwich is always super delicious. The menu is simple. They serve tofu and a chicken sandwich which for once is made of a whole piece of chicken with a super spicy and crispy shell. A simple piece of iceberg salad and a piece of cheese and you are all set.
