This is the second Mercato Centrale opened after the one in Florence and before Turin, Milan, Melbourne and Bolzano (opening in October). The Mercato Centrale is first of all a social format, which aims to give abandoned places back to the city, through an architectural redevelopment project and, secondly, through the selection of artisans of taste who, by the very nature of the Mercato Centrale, change periodically, to provide an offer that is always new and dynamic, as the format itself knows how to be. In this Central Market, opened in 2016, every day 10,000 people can choose to eat pizza, empanadas, supplì, artichokes, meat, smashed burgers, Sicilian desserts, sushi, salads, vegetarian and vegan recipes, each prepared by an artisan of taste, specialised in the sector. For those visiting this Mercato Centrale for the first time, a taste of the Trapizzino is a must, a pocket of dough born in Rome and filled with traditional Roman recipes, the crispy Supplì alla romana by Arcangelo Dandini (the owner of Supplizio), with chicken giblets, tomato, fior di latte of Agerola, fennel seeds and artisanal breadcrumbs, Luca Mastracci's Neapolitan pizza, which emphasises the products of small producers, or the not-to-be-missed first courses of the Roman tradition in the fresh pasta shop. From the second visit onwards, it is interesting to take full advantage of the market's complementary food and wine offerings. Around the same table, with relatives, friends or strangers, one can order and eat very different dishes. Which tell of a multiethnic and multicultural world, as a railway station knows how to be. The Market is also a lively place in terms of events. On the upper floors and sometimes throughout the Market, food, wine, music and cultural events take place. The Market is also active in terms of radio: it has its own radio station, hosted in Milan, and a cross-media publishing project called Nutroglicerina.
