La Picanteria was a fantastic lunch experience in Lima. The concept is simple: incredibly fresh seafood, expertly prepared. Walking in, you get a real sense of the day's catch with the fish displayed on ice. We were excited to see chita (Peruvian grunt fish) on the menu and decided to try it prepared three ways: ceviche, grilled, and in a soup.
The fish was perfectly translucent and fresh, with a delightful citrusy marinade that brought out its natural sweetness. We had the fish in three different styles. 1) Chita head soup was a flavourful and heartwarming. 2) The chita ceviche was phenomenal and 3) The grilled chita was the highlight. Cooked beautiful garlic sauce with potato. This is one spot in Lima that you should not miss!
