Cocochine in Mayfair Tucked away on a small backstreet in Mayfair, this hidden gem offered an unforgettable dining experience. Perched at the counter overlooking Chef Larry Jayasekara and his bustling kitchen, I had a front-row seat to the magic. Chef Larry, originally from Sri Lanka, brings a wealth of experience from globally renowned kitchens, including his time at Michelin-starred Petrus by Gordon Ramsay and Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons under Raymond Blanc. His international pedigree adds a refined, global flair to his creations. The amuse-bouche set the tone—a delightful composition of Comté cheese, aged Parmesan, and black truffle. The flavors were so incredible I found myself craving a second serving. The appetizers were equally impressive: succulent scallops, Norwegian king crab, and the standout fried chicken topped with foie gras and caviar. Each dish was beautifully executed and universally loved by the table. There’s a distinct French elegance in Chef Larry’s dishes, evident in the sauces and meticulous preparation. For the main course, we all opted for the beef paired with lobster and Béarnaise sauce, complemented by a rich wine reduction. It was indulgence at its finest. However, the desserts nearly stole the show. The pastry chef’s mastery was undeniable, delivering creations that were as visually stunning as they were delicious—a perfect ending to an extraordinary meal. On the way out we were given a tour including the wine cellar. All I can say is this restaurant is a work of art!
