At Weißensee, Dotori, Berlin’s first Korean anju bar, created by Dax de Franco and Chef Ji Hyun You, specialised in the Korean anju culture, food is meant to be consumed with a beautiful variety of alcohol selections.
Although alcohol is definitely on the menu, at Dotori it is the food that probably takes the central role. Typically, the anju culture includes sharing dishes and sometimes in Korean anju bars there is no menu, however here, the small kitchen of “Dotori” adapts to European standards by offering a short menu with options to accompany a range of Korean drinks such as makgeolli (Korean rice wine - white and slightly sparkling), natural wines and craft beers. Caramelized anchovies with almonds, spicy dehydrated radish, pajeon (Korean “pancake” with vegetables), pork with acidic or sweet sauces, wild garlic leaf pickle, rice with Korean seaweed, and even acorns (“Dotori” means just that). Co-owner chef Ji uses oak flour to make the traditional cubes accompanied by green salad and fresh cilantro, bringing the special flavours of her hometown to the heart of Berlin. Look for a seat at the long metal bar, the place is relaxed, perfect for small groups, with limited seating and the experience is enjoyable and super delicious!
