Please introduce yourself to our members.
My name is Grace Berrow, I am a chef living and working in Mallorca. Having opened Patiki Beach and run the kitchen there for 4 years I then moved on to open the kitchen for the first year of Hotel Corazon before becoming a Mama a year ago and moving more into the private/ pop up cheffing realm.
Tell us about your current project.
This summer my partner and I are popping up every Wednesday evening at Sóller Tennis Club´s Kiosk. It's a teeny tiny outside kitchen with a big beautiful terrace covered in plants and dotted with chairs. We have our best friends working with us and a big BBQ with delicious meats cooking to be paired with salads and fresh natural wines. It's such a vibe, full of families all eating an ever changing menu of seasonal bounty.
Aside from this I am doing private cooking but my most significant role these days in being a mother to my baby!
Tell us about the restaurant scene in Mallorca.
The restaurant scene here is changing at the moment, it has remained fairly classic for a lot longer than other parts of Europe I feel. Spanish food runs deep and when I arrived 6 years ago it was difficult to find anything fresh or seasonal and all the restaurants were serving paella, chicken, chips, grilled calamari etc. Its been so good to see that changing and a fresh wave of food offerings come in.
What are your three favorite restaurants in Mallorca and why?
- Ses Coves in Campanet – Its a beautiful family run restaurant in the countryside, they take great care in sourcing their ingredients both from their own garden and the beef they cook to perfection on an outside fire. Everything you eat there is perfection and home made. (The caves are also absolutely incredible for an after dinner adventure)
- Blai Bar – This is our friends restaurant in the heart of the port of Soller. Pepo the head chef worked with me at Patiki and has taken lots of that fresh vibrancy to Blai with her. It's a super fun atmosphere, the sun sets from there are heaven and the food is deeeeelicious.
- Bar La Sang – Unrivalled on the island for excellent food, vibe, wines humans. This is a true gem of an institution and one definitely not to miss.

Any new restaurant in Mallorca that you think is doing great things?
.......not that I am aware of.
Do you have any hidden gem that you want to highlight in Mallorca?
Island ices in Soller serves some of the most exquisite ice cream I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Constantly changing with the season, always excellent.
What’s your favorite kind of restaurant and why?
I like a family run restaurant, one that feels like you are eating in an extension of someone's home. I like to feel like they care deeply for the ingredients they are buying and serving and that they genuinely want to feed and care for you.
What are your three favorite food cities and your favorite restaurants in those cities?
- Florence: Cammillo – I like to eat all the sides ( there are many) and watch the kitchen do what it does so well.
- London: Spring – Skye Gyngell is my ultimate food pin up, I learned so so much from her and everything she makes is like sunshine to me. The vegetables from Ferne Verrow are heavenly, the home made pasta is heavenly the everything actually and all to be eaten in the most elegant dining room
- San Sebastian: Ganbara – pinxos upstairs at lunch time washed down with muccchhh txakaoli and dinner downstairs in the tiny intimate dining room – fish soup, sautéed mushrooms, strawberries and cream

What is your favorite dish and where is your favorite restaurant to have it?
Delicately steamed white fish and vegetables with rouille served in Ganbara San Sebastián in the small downstairs dining room
Who is an up-and-coming chef you are keeping an eye on?
My friend Dom Goring (head chef at Cafe Cecilia) who I have watched work in all the most delicious restaurants in London and feel may one day have one of his own.
Who is a food expert whose restaurant recommendations you’d like to see?
Hmmmmm, Id like to hear from someone in the know about where to eat in Romania as its top of my list for culinary exploration......
